NAIL SURGERY TREATMENTS

Ingrown Toenail Treatment

At Springhead Chiropody & Podiatry, ingrowing toenail procedures are undertaken under local anaesthetic making the procedure pain free.

There are two procedures, partical nail removal or full nail removal. Depending on the condition of the nail and what is required by the patient will determine the procedure we use.  All treatments will require chemical intervention to stop the nail returning. For further details contact the clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are considering nail surgery or simply want to understand more about the procedure, we have answered some of the most common questions below to help put your mind at ease.

Nail surgery is a minor procedure carried out by a podiatrist to treat painful or recurring ingrown toenails. It usually involves removing part of the nail (partial avulsion), though in some cases the entire nail may be removed.

No. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, so you will not feel any pain during the treatment. You may have mild discomfort once the anaesthetic wears off, but this is usually short-lived and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.

Most people recover within 2–4 weeks. You’ll be given aftercare advice and dressing instructions to help the area heal properly. A follow-up appointment may also be arranged to check your progress.

If only part of the nail is removed and the nail bed is left intact, it may regrow. However, to reduce the chance of the problem returning, we usually apply a chemical called phenol to destroy the cells responsible for nail regrowth (this is called permanent removal).

Yes, you will be able to walk out of the clinic. We recommend wearing open-toe or loose-fitting shoes and avoiding intense activity for a few days to allow proper healing.

No. It is a common myth that cutting a ‘V’ in the nail will fix an ingrown toenail. It does not change how the nail grows and will not relieve the pressure. In fact, it can make the issue worse or delay proper treatment.

As soon as you notice signs of pain, swelling, redness or infection. Early treatment can help avoid the need for surgery, but if the problem keeps coming back, nail surgery is often the most effective long-term solution.

Springhead Chiropody always put the customers first, I’ve received brillant service from Tessa and Fiona. They have gone the extra mile for me with my ongoing situation with Plantar Fasciitis and Chronic Pain. They booked me in the same week, after my consultation. I am currently having the laser treatment. I have only had three, I already feel a massive difference.

All the team are friendly, the place is very clean and welcoming, when you visit. I would recommend Springhead Chiropody. I appreciate Tessa’s and Fiona’s support in getting me better, thank you. ☺️

What a wonderful and cheerful place this is, I first started going here just after the pandemic, I was having trouble with gout and fungus on my big toes, fiona has been looking after me and I go every 8 weeks, the staff are very friendly and always asking about your health.
During my last treatment at the beginning of March I was telling fiona about the knee pain I was having and how difficult it is to see a doctor, she told me about the laser treatment they do there for pain relief, she asked if I would like to try it, so I signed up for a 6 dose of treatment, you do not have to have a 6course but it was recommended.
Next day I went for the first half hour treatment, the next day I felt a big difference in the pain, upto now I have had 4 half hour sessions, and the difference to my knee has been unbelievable.
I am a 79yr old male and highly recommend this place, if you are suffering with any joint pain it is worth giving it a try. Thank you fiona and tessa.
